Listening to Wisdom: My First Community Engagement with Redmond Seniors

🌱✨ Yesterday's volunteer experience left me inspired. ✨🌱

I joined a roundtable discussion organized by United Hub at a senior apartment complex in Redmond 🏡. Together with an amazing group of seniors, we talked about:

♻️ Urban sustainability

🌍 Environmental protection

🗑️ Waste management

⚡ Energy upgrades

What truly moved me was how everyone contributed ideas freely 💡—with wisdom, humor, and a shared vision for a greener, more livable community. 💬❤️

Many expressed appreciation for their neighborhood, but also shared hopes for:

📢 More accessible info channels

📲 Easier ways to give feedback to local agencies

👥 Ongoing community dialogue

This wasn’t just a discussion—it was a learning experience for me. 🤝 The seniors were warm, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable. I walked away with insights on things I hadn’t deeply considered before:

🏘️ Home safety

🚌 Transportation

🌿 Environmental care

Most of all, their kindness and encouragement reminded me of the true value of volunteering—to listen, to learn, and to connect. 💖

💡 Young adults have so much to gain from engaging with our elders. Let’s continue building bridges across generations. 🌉

志愿者活动之雷德蒙德长者公寓

昨天我作为志愿者参与了友和(United Hub) 在雷德蒙德长者公寓举行的圆桌讨论会， 协助长者们开展对于城市可持续发展，环境保护，垃圾处理，能源升级等问题及现状的讨论并收集反馈及建议。我观察到大家集思广益，群策群力，畅所欲言，发挥所有人的智慧提供宝贵建议，只为让社区变得更环保，更便捷，更适于人们居住，也对社区现状表达了赞赏和期望。希望开辟更多，更广，更便捷的信息渠道，更方便地获取信息及向相关部门反馈。

通过和长辈们的互动，我深受触动并对志愿者精神有了更深刻的体会。长者们风趣幽默和蔼可亲，此次活动成为了我进入社区后真正意义上第一次“走出去”的契机；长者们知识渊博阅历丰富，我了解到了此前从未深度思考过的，居家安全和出行，环境保护方面的知识；长者们平和耐心，通过他们的肯定和赞许，我体会到了助人为乐的重量，看到了青壮年对社会和他人的另一种价值。
