During a sunny Mother’s Day weekend gathering, Idylwood Park in Redmond became a living mosaic of culture, creativity, environmental care, and family connection. Co-organized by United Hub, the City of Redmond, and Green Redmond, this multi-generational, multicultural gardener gathering brought together residents of all ages and backgrounds to celebrate community through nature, art, wellness, and shared stewardship.

🌿 Weed Clearing & Forest Stewardship

The gathering began with hands-on ecological restoration.

Volunteers worked side by side removing invasive weeds and caring for the health of local green spaces.

From grandparents gardening alongside elementary school children, to parents participating with middle schoolers, the event reflected the beauty of generations learning and growing together.

One of the youngest participants was a joyful 3-year-old girl who came hand-in-hand with her father, eagerly joining activities and exploring the park with curiosity and wonder.

Families knelt together in the soil, children asked questions about plants and forests, and experienced gardeners shared knowledge with younger participants.

Through the mission of Green Redmond and collective community action, stewardship became both educational and deeply personal—a reminder that caring for nature and community can begin at any age.

🎨 Watercolor Art in the Garden

A local artist guided participants in watercolor painting inspired by blooming spring plants.

Surrounded by the natural beauty of Idylwood Park, guests translated what they observed into flowing color and brushwork.

🌀 Handmade Tie-Dye Workshop

Participants explored creativity through fabric dyeing, producing vibrant, one-of-a-kind pieces that reflected individuality, cultural exchange, and joyful experimentation.

☯️ Tai Chi & Baduanjin Wellness Practice

People of all ages joined gentle movement sessions rooted in traditional wellness practices. Through Tai Chi and Baduanjin, participants experienced balance, breath, and calm connection with nature.

🍵 Tea Ceremony Demonstration: Mindful Moments in Nature

A tea ceremony brought a quiet, reflective atmosphere to the park. Through precise, graceful preparation and sharing of tea, participants experienced a moment of stillness, presence, and appreciation for simplicity and ritual.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 A Multi-Generational, Multicultural Gathering

Elders shared experience, children explored freely, and families connected across cultures and languages. The park became a space where community was not only discussed—but lived.

This collaboration between United Hub, City of Redmond, and Green Redmond reflected a shared vision:

✨ Environmental restoration and stewardship

✨ Cultural exchange and inclusion

✨ Wellness and mindful living

✨ Creative expression through art

✨ Stronger, more connected neighborhoods

As Mother’s Day approached, the gathering carried deeper meaning. Like gardening itself, community building is an act of care—patient, continuous, and rooted in the belief that growth is shared.

In Idylwood Park that day,

we cleared more than weeds,

we painted more than flowers,

we shared more than tea,

and together with Green Redmond,

we helped grow a greener, more connected future. 🌱🌸
